The Joanne Wood Scholarship Fund was established shortly after her death in 2012 by Joanne’s family, friends, and colleagues as a way to honor and remember her. Joanne was born and raised in Methuen, MA. She came from a large family, she was one of seven girls. Joanne graduated Magna Cum Laude from Merrimack College in 1980 with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. She went on to obtain an MBA from Babson College in 1982 and later attended classes at Harvard University, to further her education.
In 1983, Joanne began her career at MEDITECH. She quickly rose to management positions and in 1988 became Director, Health Care Information Systems, responsible for overseeing the successful implementation of several MEDITECH products. Joanne was instrumental in expanding the company’s implementation services and staff to meet the growing demands of the business. In 1995 Joanne was appointed Vice President of MEDITECH. Joanne was a strong executive with a sharp, analytical mind, and a passion for what she did. In 2010 she was named Senior Vice President of MEDITECH. In 2011, Joanne also became president of it's subsidiary LSS in Minnesota . As President, Joanne was responsible for all operations of this Minnesota based subsidiary.
Joanne was diagnosed with Primary Amyloidosis in January of 2006. Joanne was given a short time to live. It is a testament to her sheer will to live, fantastic care, innovative treatments and the love and support of her family, friends and colleagues, that allowed her to survive for over 6 years.
Joanne was an avid reader, patron of The Metropolitan Opera, competitive scrabble player, enjoyed doing crosswords, a wonderful cook, and loved to dance and have fun. She was always passionate and enthusiastic,not only about her life, but the lives of others.
Joanne was an inspiration to her staff and was constantly challenging them to grow. She prided herself on her ethics, fairness, and dedication. She always found teachable moments in everyday life. She was a mentor to many and took great joy in the success of others.
